If you are looking into building a wood fence, take time to research your different options. Not all wood fencing is built the same, and the right material puts you on the path to long-term satisfaction with your fence design.

Cedar is one of the most popular options for wood fencing in Florida. It has an average lifespan of 30 years and with proper care, it can withstand the wet, humid months of summer without suffering from mold or mildew damage. Cedar is also naturally pest-resistant due to its strong scent, which is ideal for Floridians since we have so many bug problems in the summer. While cedar is a more expensive option, it will last you much longer than cheaper options.

Pine is another favorite for wood fencing as it is easy to work with and highly durable in all weather conditions. Typically, pine must be pressure treated to prevent water damage, but it can be a more affordable alternative to cedar. Pine also has a prominent wood grain which makes it ideal for staining. With a rich brown color, your pine fence will look stunning for years to come.

Cypress is a less common wood type, but we are lucky in Florida to have supplies of it that are more affordable than in other parts of the U.S. Cypress trees grow almost exclusively in the Southeastern United States which means they can be expensive in other areas. Like cedar, they have a scent that deters insects. Cypress also takes to staining well and is highly decorative for residential fencing.

FloriFence offers these wood types and others with a variety of pain and style customizations to make your fence truly your own. TO learn more about wood fence care and installation, give us a call today!
