Should You Install a Sound Barrier Fence?

Are you exasperated by the noise outside your home? Loud traffic, a whirring HVAC unit, or noisy neighbors can all ruin your peace of might and a sound night’s sleep. However, unless you live in a gated community, there are very few options for homeowners to reduce the noise outside the lines of their own property. This is where sound barrier fencing comes into play.

Your home should be a sanctuary — a place where all the hustle and bustle of the outside world disappears. If your quiet ambiance has been interrupted, it could be time to install a sound barrier fence. Before you take on this home improvement project, however, you’ll want to do your research and choose a fencing option that will meet all of your needs.

Choosing a solid material such as wood or vinyl will help block noise. Without a solid material, you’ll have sound waves penetrate and most of the fence’s efficacy will be lost. Tongue and groove designs are ideal to ensure there are as few gaps as possible in your fencing.

The height of your fence is also critical. The higher it is, the more noise you can block. Most areas have a 6’ height limit for residential areas and an 8’ limit for commercial properties. Talk to your FloriFence professional to determine how high you can build your sound barrier fence.

Other additions to your fencing such as sound blankets and mass-loaded vinyl can be installed between fence posts to create an additional barrier to sound from the outside world. This typically has to be done during the initial fence construction, but the FloriFence team may be able to renovate some fencing designs in order to accommodate these changes.

At FloriFence, we value your peace of mind and want to help you create a fence that will meet all of your needs. Contact us today to learn more about sound barrier fencing options in Tampa, Florida.
