Prepping Your Pool for Autumn

As the summer comes to an end, it’s likely you won’t be using your pool nearly as often. Even though September and October will still have warm temperatures in Florida, with the kids back in school and the holiday season fast approaching, it’s likely you won’t see much of your pool until next summer. If you want to avoid the chore of completely draining and cleaning your pool next year, follow these tips for autumn and winter maintenance:

Drain the pool for easier winter maintenance.

In Florida, we rarely see freezes in winter, but it’s still a good idea to drain some of the water from your pool for easier maintenance. While it isn’t advised to drain your pool completely, you can lower the water level to prevent plumbing freezes.

Cover it before the leaves start to fall.

Every pool owner knows that cleaning is the most difficult task of pool maintenance. When leaves fall in the pool, especially in the fall when it’s not being used, you can suffer from clogged drains and algae development. Once you’ve entered the time of year when you won’t be using your pool, be sure to cover it immediately to prevent leaves from falling in.

Balance your water chemistry.

It is just as important to keep your water balanced in the fall as it is in the summer. If you don’t your pool water could be unsafe when you’re finally ready to use it next year. Keep up with pH, sanitizer, and algaecide levels weekly to ensure your pool stays in tip-top shape.

Build your pool fence.

If you don’t already have a fence or cover for your pool, now is the time to do it. FloriFence is most buddy during the summer, which means as have more time for new customer inquiries in the fall. If you are looking to make your pool safer for next year, now is the time to start thinking about installations.
