How to Design the Perfect Fence Layout

At FloriFence, we spend a great deal of time with our clients in the design process of their new fences. It may seem like a simple process, but there is much more to fence design than simply mapping out the perimeter. A well-thought-out fence design should incorporate your family or business needs as well as the terrain and maintenance required for your specific landscape.

The Four Elements of Proper Fence Design

Building a fence for a specific property requires careful planning and research based on the client’s needs and vision for their fence. Below we’ll go over the different elements of fence design, and how you can better prepare for your installation:

  • Landscape – The terrain is the first consideration for new fence designs. Planning a border than is uniform despite tree placement and slope of the land is important to create a seemingly perfect fence on an imperfect surface.
  • Climate – Fences built on the waterfront have very different needs from that built inland in Florida. The temperature, humidity, and air quality will all affect the way your fence ages over time, which is why it’s important to consider Florida weather before choosing your fence design.
  • Functionality – Fences need to be practically designed for your family or business needs before they are designed for aesthetics. Gate placement, height, and material should be considered based on what you’ll be doing on your property and what benefits you want to add to your property with a fence.
  • Home design – While functionality is most important, you want your fence style to match that of your home. A historic home won’t look quite right if you have a brand new vinyl fence with a bright and modern color. Choosing the style that will complement your home will ensure your fence adds curb appeal (and therefore property value) to your home.

FloriFence can help you design a fence that will not only meet your needs but stand the test of time. To learn more about the fence design process, contact us today!
