Tampa Metal, Wood & Vinyl Fencing SALES & INSTALLATION

What Types of Fencing Are Affected By Rain?

Floridians are no strangers to rainstorms. In the summer months, some parts of Florida receive weekly or even daily rainstorms as part of the annual hurricane season. Because of this, our homes need to be prepared for intense and frequent rain.

For most homeowners, this means designing around water damage for any exterior parts of the home. Damage to roofing and wooden fixtures can be difficult to repair especially when mildew or wood rot set in. In our line of work, this is especially concerning for those who want wooden privacy fences for their homes.

Wooden fences can be great for Florida homes, but not without the proper protection to protect them from water damage. If you have a wooden fence in Florida, here’s what you need to do:

  • Paint or stain the fence to create a water-resistant barrier between you and the fence. Make sure you wait for a stretch of sunny weather to begin the painting to ensure it dries completely.
  • Keep grasses and greenery trimmed along the fenceline to prevent excessive water retention in the soil.
  • Ensure proper drainage from your home and fenceline.
  • Touch-up paint or stain on wooden fencing every few years to preserve its water resistance over time.

Vinyl and most metal fencing are water-resistant in its nature, but it’s important to protect these with a water-resistant powder coating or paint as well. Some metal fence materials, like wrought iron, are not water-resistant on their own so the same precautions you would take with wood should be applied.

FloriFence strives to provide water-resistant fencing for all Florida homes because we know how important it is during hurricane season. If you’d like to learn more about your fence options for Florida homes, contact us today!
