Adding Gates to An Installed Fence

Your home or business is a constantly changing environment. What you need today may not be what you need ten years from now, which makes building design so difficult. One of the most common issues we hear from customers is that their current fence no longer serves their needs or property.

Perhaps you’ve decided to change up your landscaping and need to restructure your fence layout. Or, you’ve added a new driveway, entrance, or other structure to the home and need to modify your fence’s entrances as well. Regardless of the reason, adding a gate is a common modification we do at FloriFence, and the process is not as complex as you may think.

Is it possible to add a gate to an existing fence?

The good news is yes, you can easily add a new gate to an existing fence design. Wood fencing is one of the easiest materials to work with because the costs can easily be cut and shaped to create a simple gate design from existing fencing. However, even the less malleable fence materials like vinyl and aluminum can be modified to include a gate at almost any point in your current fence design.

What gates work best for adding to an existing fence?

If you want to quickly add a gate to your fence, we recommend a simple swing gate. These do not take long to install and the fence simply needs to be restructured at the hinges to make the change. However, you don’t want to rush into a design choice that you’ll be living with for years. We have a variety of options, from double gates to automatic gates that can add value to your home in many different ways.

What do I need to do to prepare?

Your FloriFence contractor will do most of the prepwork for your fence installation, but you should plan ahead for exactly where you want your fence and what design you want. The more research you do now, the faster they can prepare for your reconstruction project.
