Tips for Installing Wood Fencing For Your Front Yard

Front yard fencing is much less common than fencing for backyards. It is difficult to strike the right balance of privacy and security, while still creating curb appeal for your home’s front entrance. If you are considering front yard fencing, wood is a very popular choice – but be careful. Wood fencing can easily overpower your front yard and make it look closed off or stick out in the neighborhood.

If you want to make your front yard fencing look its best, follow these four tips:

Choose a low fence.

Tall fencing in a front yard not only looks out of place but will cause issues for yours and your neighbor’s driveways. If cars can’t see when backing up, you could be creating a dangerous situation. We recommend fencing no taller than four feet for front yards. You can gently slope your fencing from six to four feet between the front and back to make your fence match and meet height recommendations on all sides.

Consider split rail fencing.

Split rail fencing is a style of fence that has open horizontal rails rather than vertical rails constructed close together. This open fence design looks better in front yards as it showcases your home’s front entrance and provides better visibility for cars. It can also enhance a rustic cabin or cottage design as split rail fencing is often used for farmlands and rural homes.

Cover with flowers and shrubbery.

Front yards should showcase the best part of your home, including its beautiful landscaping. If you don’t want your fence to hide all of that, consider growing flowering bushes and other greenery outside the fence closest to the road. This can make your front yard fencing look more natural while still providing a barrier for security and pet safety.

Match your home style.

If you are going to build a fence in your front yard, it is essential that you match it to your home’s style. Don’t install wooden split rail fencing for a modern beachfront home, and don’t add sleek, opaque, vinyl to a rustic bungalow. The fence should look like it was built at the same time as the home and complement its colors and architectural design.

FloriFence can help you design a front yard fence that adds to your home’s entrance rather than taking away from it. To learn more about wood options for Florida homes, give our office a call today!
