What’s the difference between vinyl and PVC?

In terms of fencing material, the terms “vinyl” and “PVC” are essentially interchangeable. PVC stands for “polyvinyl chloride,” which is a type of vinyl plastic. Most vinyl fencing is made with PVC and other plastics and compounds to create the most durable, clean-cut fence available. Though vinyl fencing is not made exclusively with PVC, it is the primary material used for every type of vinyl fencing. 

Is vinyl fencing all made the same?

Though all vinyl fencing is made from PVC, it is not all built to the same standards of quality. High-end vinyl fencing uses other polymers and coatings to ensure longevity and aesthetic quality over time. Pre-constructed vinyl and vinyl made for affordable home projects are not built to the same quality standards, and should not be used unless you’re on a low budget.
