Summer Maintenance Tips for Your Vinyl Fence

The summer months in Florida can be a blessing and a curse for residents. While this time of year brings in business from around the U.S., it also brings with it unbearable heat and thunderstorm seasons that will last for weeks. Because of the volatile weather, some of your summer in Florida should be dedicated to outdoor maintenance. Landscaping and fencing maintenance is critical to maintaining the beauty of your property.

Luckily for you, vinyl fencing is one of the most weather-resistant types of fencing available. With a few basic procedures, you can keep your vinyl looking pristine throughout the summer. Here’s what we at FloriFence recommend for summer maintenance:

Lubricate hinges as needed.

While the vinyl itself is basically waterproof, your metal hinges and latches can have problems in the summer months. Even rust-proof latches can get stuck in the summertime due to sun and rain exposure. Be sure to lubricate them often to prevent damage over time.

Check the ground for fence post stability.

Oftentimes we fill the ground where fencing is installed with concrete to prevent any movement of fence posts. However, vinyl fencing that is installed directly into the ground may have slight shifts as the soil is washed away from heavy rains. During and after the hurricane season it’s important to ensure your vinyl fencing isn’t leaning or loose in the ground.

Clean stains off the fence.

In the summertime foliage, children, and pets can all leave minor stains on your vinyl fencing. Luckily, this is easy to treat as vinyl is stain-resistant due to its hard protective outer coating. To remove dirt and grass stains, simply wash with water and a mild detergent or all-purpose cleaner. Use a non-abrasive cloth or sponge to work the cleaner into the stain, and rinse with a garden hose afterward. Inspecting your fence at the beginning and end of summer will help you maintain its cleanliness and get rid of stains fast.
